Gomphrena

The best known species of Gomphrena is the pretty annual, G. globosa, which was introduced from India in 1714, and has continued in favour ever since. It owes its popularity not to its flowers, but to the persistent coloured bracts, which give the flower- heads the character of an "everlasting" if they are gathered before quite fully mature, and dried in the shade.

Since its first botanical recording in 1826, it has been referred to by several botanical names, including Pfaffia paniculata, Hebanthe paniculata, and Gomphrena paniculata. The genus Pfaffia is well known in Central and South America, with over 50 species ...It is indigenous to the Amazon basin and other tropical parts of (southern) Brazil, Ecuador, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, and Venezuela.
